HomeBlogWindow and Door Replacement BlogWhat To Expect When Getting Your Home Windows Replaced

While it may scare homeowners to think of someone coming into their home and tearing out all their windows and installing new ones, the process can be very quick and easy. In fact, for many homes, the installation can be done in a single day.

The process

To give an idea of what it looks like to have your windows replaced, we will use our own process as an example. You may, naturally, have a different experience with another company, but for the most part, these steps are common practice.

  1. Project assessment — Before we get to work, we need to get a picture of what the job would entail. During this phase, we come to your home or property, make an introduction and learn the details of the potential job. We want to know things like how many windows you are thinking of replacing and if there is any rot or damage that needs to be taken into consideration.
  2. Styles and options — The next step is to go through all the style and model options that we have to design the perfect windows. At Replacement NC, we use Andersen Windows and Doors’ products, which is the most popular replacement-window company in the country. But there are other great options out there as well. You tell us what is important to you for the windows, which includes things like energy efficiency, color, style and materials.
  3. Ordering your new windows — After deciding which window options fit your needs best, we will put together a quote, answer any questions you may have, and then, if you decide, we will order the windows. We then work with the customer to come up with a good date to come by and install the new windows. A second appointment may be necessary if there are complicating factors around extra prep work or other details, but generally, the initial meeting — with the project assessment and style discussions — will be enough.
  4. Installation — Once the date that was arranged arrives, members of our installation team will come over and get to work. Team members will take out the old windows from the openings, careful not to damage anything that is meant to remain. Windows that had more damage to the surrounding area, like from rot or bad framing, will receive a full-frame replacement, while windows that are in functional openings can simply receive an insert replacement, where the framing and trim is not disturbed. Many homeowners are surprised to find out that many window replacement jobs can be completed in a single day or even less. With the proper crew and expertise and team like ours at Replacement NC can make ti happen quickly and efficiently so you don’t have to live in a perpetual job site.

If there is any debris, team members are very careful to keep it isolated to the job site and to remove it when they are done. After installation, we make sure that each window opens, closes and is without defect, but otherwise, that’s it!
